<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Michelle Obama is complaining again, and this time it’s about how “expensive” it was living in the White House while her husband was president.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The 61-year-old former first lady discussed her woes during an appearance this week on “The Diary of a CEO” podcast.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“How do you raise kids in the White House? It’s dangerous,” Obama said. “As the first black potential president, we knew there would be death threats … how would we afford it? Because it’s expensive to live in the White House, as many people don’t know.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I mean, much is not covered,” she continued. “You’re paying for every food, every bit of food that you eat, you know, you’re not paying for housing and the staff in it … but everything, even travel, if you’re not traveling with the president, if you’re kids are coming on a Bright Star, which is the first lady’s plane, we had to pay for their travel to be on the plane.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Obama repeated, “It is an expensive proposition, and you’re running for two years and not earning an income, so all of that was in my mind, um, how would we manage this.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This isn’t the first time the “Becoming” author has mentioned the topic of paying for life during her husband’s presidency.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">During a 2018 interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she again discussed the topic of paying for food.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“If you say you want some exotic fruit, ‘Yes, ma&#8217;am, we&#8217;ll get that right away,’ and then you get the bill for a peach and it&#8217;s like, that was a $500 peach!?” Obama </span><a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AktU2gettoU"><span style="font-weight: 400;">told</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> the late night host. “I would tell Barack, ‘Barack, do not express pleasure for anything unless I know how much it costs.’”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Per </span><a href="https://www.newsweek.com/chart-shows-net-worth-us-presidents-before-after-office-1992975"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Newsweek</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;">, the Obamas entered the White House with a net worth of $1.3 million, and now have grown that amount to around $70 million. This 5,300 percent increase is the second highest jump in net worth for any president in history, second only to Bill Clinton.</span></p>
